Our Mission + Vision

The vision of the Dante Alighieri Montessori School is to encourage the development of each individual child by cultivating a lifelong joy of learning in an environment that fosters the positive relationship among adults, and between the children and the adults in the community. The school will nurture the individuality and potential of the children, allowing them to become respectful, thoughtful and responsible leaders, who believe they can contribute their gifts in a way that positively impacts the world. Our Vision The Dante Alighieri Montessori School will realize this mission by:

★  Following the principles of the Montessori Method

★  Creating an individualized plan for each student

         â˜…  Providing hands-on learning experiences

â˜…  Creating environments and offering educational

               opportunities that are developmentally appropriate

â˜…  Allowing children the time and structure to deepen

their knowledge in areas of interest

â˜…  Developing each child's understanding of their role in

their community and giving them access to it

MARIA MONTESSORI

Maria Montessori was an Italian physician, educator, and innovator, acclaimed for her educational method that builds on the way children learn naturally.

Dr. Maria Montessori was an Italian physician and educator who developed the educational method that bears her name. Despite receiving continuous discouragemnt, hostility, and harassment from her male peers and professors during her time studying medicine, she won an academic prize in her first year and secured coveted a position as a hospital assistant early in her course of study, gaining clinical experience. She studied pediatrics and psychiatry and became an expert in pediatric medicine. She continued her education delving more and more into psychology and pedagogy. She opened the Casa dei Bambini, or Children's House, in 1907, interested in applying more widely an educational method she develped and called "scientific pedagogy". The Children's House initially enrolled between 50 and 60 children between the ages of two and seven. In this first classroom, Montessori observed behaviors in these young children which formed the foundation of her educational method. She noted episodes of deep attention and concentration, multiple repetitions of activity, and a sensitivity to order in the environment. The children showed interest in practical activities and over time, she saw a spontaneous self-discipline emerge. Dr. Montessori believed that by working independently, children could reach new levels of autonomy and become self-motivated to reach new levels of understanding. She also came to believe that acknowledging all children as individuals and treating them as such would yield better learning and fulfilled potential in each particular child.

Our Campus

We are located in the East Boston neighborhood, a community that has traditionally been home to many waves of new immigrants in the city. It has a rich maritime history due to its unique location on the Boston harbor. It is vibrant, diverse, and tight-knit.

We have six classrooms, a music/science room, a multi-purpose room, and a new library. We have an outdoor space with a play structure, several gardening spaces, and room for children to exercise and have fun. We believe it is important for children to have outdoor time every day, understand their relationship to our environment, and get plenty of movement!

The Peace Pole // World peace, etc…
